Because attitudes affect actions, the Safety Perception Survey (SPS) places emphasis on what employees think and believe. Measuring gaps between manager and front line worker viewpoints, the SPS creates a baseline from which to begin improvements. To keep the momentum, Caterpillar Safety Services supports you by prescribing action items, providing learning resources, facilitating workshops and training your trainers on ideological topics.
The Safety Perception Survey includes a total of 73 yes-no questions, which can be administered online or by traditional pencil-to-scan forms. These can be supplemented with onsite interviews for even greater insight.

From a pure technical standpoint, the survey establishes a baseline measurement of employee attitudes and perceptions across 20 statistically validated Safety Culture Indicators. Its results present a clear barometer of the health and condition of an organization's safety culture, as well as:

Caterpillar Safety Services Onsite Interviews gather insight at the individual level, one qualitative interview at a time. Through data from interviews, you’re able to identify your greatest strengths and your most troubling vulnerabilities that impact the “health and condition” of safety management. Whether used as a tool to compliment the Safety Perception Survey or as a stand-alone process, the interview and follow-up analysis establishes clear focus and steps toward change.
